It is believed that Reiki is around 2,500 years old. Originating in either Tibet or India, the practice migrated to Southeast Asia and China. Mikao Usui was a Japanese Scholar in the late 1800’s. During a spiritual quest to find an understanding of life, Usui discovered the power of Reiki. He developed a system to teach others the Usui Reiki Ryoho (the Usui Reiki system of natural healing). One of his students, Dr. Hayashi, started a healing clinic in Tokyo. A woman named Hawayo Takata went to the clinic to seek treatment for physical ailments. After 4 months of daily treatment, she was healed. The first woman to receive Reiki training, Takata brought Reiki from Japan to the United States in 1938.

No, Reiki is not a religion, nor is it affiliated with any religion. Reiki energy is the life force energy - older than any religious philosophy.
-
No, Reiki will never be harmful. The energy is from the life source - only bringing what is needed to the receiver.

I cannot know what will happen in any treatment session, therefore I cannot promise a cure or specific result. Reiki will never heal anyone against their will. If a session “doesn’t work” it is possible the receiver is resistant to receiving the energy.

Research shows us that Reiki reduces stress, promotes relaxation, relieves pain, speeds the body’s healing processes, reduces anxiety, and balances the chakras. Whether physical or emotional, Reiki can address healing in both realms. Often we need to treat the emotional parts of ourselves in order to bring healing to the physical body.
